"Flying with Bryan was great! I got my private pilot about two years ago and always wanted to fly tailwheel airplanes. Finding an instructor for that endorsement is not common in West Texas, but luckily I found him nearby. At first, I thought the hourly price was high, but looking back it was all worth it. I learned more in the first 2 hours of flight than I learned with three other instructors in the last 50 dual hours of my PPL. My grandpa was a pilot for a long time, and he told me about the old school maneuvers they used to teach and how they don’t teach it anymore. Well, Bryan does! I used to be able to operate flying a plane, but now I feel like I can wear the plane and understand the art of flying better and safer. Teaching tailwheel was a great experience. He walked me through things I struggled with and through repetition I got it down. The J-3 Cub has to be one of my favorite aircraft I can say that I have flown. I could easily write an entire page about my tailwheel training with Bryan! If you love flying and having fun, he’s the guy. This has been one of the most fun and beneficial experiences of my aviation career. As a current CFI, I was surprised by how much I didn’t know. Bryan is a top-notch instructor and an even better person. I wish I could do it all over again!

The SPIN training increased my awareness of how to respond if a SPIN were to develop. Without this training, correctly recovering from a SPIN—especially when the airplane’s nose is pointed straight toward the ground would be very difficult. However, the airmanship training we completed was equally, if not more, important, providing me with skills that I continue to refine every time I fly. Biggest take-aways: Carry top rudder in the turn; Rudder, Rudder, Rudder; unload the wing in a turn and slip if needed.

What surprised me was the amount of rudder input in any phase! Plus, what you can do safely when you unload the wings.

The spin training was a huge eye opener. Learning how spins develop and how to properly recover from them gave me a lot more confidence and awareness in the air. It definitely made me a smoother, more intentional pilot, especially with stall recognition and recovery. Honestly, what surprised me most was how quickly things can escalate if you’re not ahead of the airplane. Super valuable training, glad I got to do it with Bryan.

Really appreciate the instruction presented during the spin training. Very thorough on practicing spins and methods to avoid inadvertently spinning the aircraft. Overall a very enjoyable and educational flight.
